End of day 1

April 11. We are in Baltimore. Could actually have made NY city, but didn’t want to buck the end of day traffic and we don’t need to be there until tomorrow. So, nicely put up at the Hyatt right on the Inner Harbor. Good dinner at Sullivan’s. After a very big martini, Ed’s not quite sober so I am writing tonight.

So how did the day go? Well Stewball hesitated, bucked a bit but then settled down. This was after filling with gas with 10% ethanol. These old engines weren’t designed for that. Hope that is the problem and not vapor lock or the rotor in the distributor (Ed has other rotors) or some problem that will manifest itself in China when it is too late to do anything about it. The timing was such that we prefer to think of it as just a gas problem. Maybe Tums will help if it recurs.

Weather was hot. Not prepared for this, but we need to get use to it. Thank goodness for side vents. An early form of air-conditioning. Wonder if we need the winter jackets we brought. It would have been nice not to have added this to our already overstuffed car. But we have them,  so let it snow!

Tomorrow the Big Apple.

Jan (and Ed in absentia)

About ejhowle23

Authors and adventurers, participated in the World Race 2011, an automobile rally from New York to Paris, crossing three continents and 14,000 land miles. Following much the same route as the setting for our debut novel, The Long Road to Paris. This blog describes our own adventures and challenges. And now you can follow our Bahamas sailing adventure that provides the setting for our second novel, Night Watch. Our rally, the African Safari Challenge, crossed five countries in South Africa in May 2014 and in 2015 we participated in the second Trans-American rally this time from Nova Scotia to San Francisco. Next month we will travel 28 days around Australia with friends from previous rallies. Australia is over. Now on to S. America for the Rally of the Incas.

You are officially on your way, and if a ‘tini or two settles Himself down, it’s no crime. Just think back to ’08 — the one in the 20th century, that is.

As to an over-stuffed Stewball. He’s a big boy and can handle it. After all, he pulled that SUV up out of the lower driveway!

Have fun, and we’ll continue to monitor your travels and adventures.

    Hugs,

Big Apple, here you come! Oh man, Stewball is bucking already? Or maybe just a little hickup because of the start. I bet on the last one. As for martini’s….on my first sea sailing trip in Greece with a group of friends, we celebrated every safe landing in a harbor at the end of the day with a stiff drink on deck. I suggest you keep doing the same: celebrate every landing with a hoora drink 🙂 Have fun in NYC! Hug, Carla
