Night Watch

Aug. 10: We’ve started the actual writing of our second novel. The working title is Night Watch. It will be set in the Bahamas and involve sailing there, a venue we are very familiar with. We find it much easier to write in settings that we can visualize.

Like The Long Road to Paris, this story will involve both suspense and romance. Carter McDowell and Mary Katherine Connoly-  Kat-will be the lead characters. Again, like The Long Road to Paris, we think this one will be told mostly from the male character’s point of view and involve a gutsy female character and a thoughtful, problem-solving male. But at this point, as every author knows, we don’t know exactly where this story will take us. Characters have a mind of their own and at some point, the author can only follow their lead. Who knows, maybe Ed, Lizzy and Marie-Claire will appear again!  So, does this appeal to you? Leave your response.

If we are not too busy with author events for The Long Road to Paris this winter, we will take off for West End, Grand Bahamas Island on Silver Girl, our Catalina 310.

About ejhowle23

Authors and adventurers, participated in the World Race 2011, an automobile rally from New York to Paris, crossing three continents and 14,000 land miles. Following much the same route as the setting for our debut novel, The Long Road to Paris. This blog describes our own adventures and challenges. And now you can follow our Bahamas sailing adventure that provides the setting for our second novel, Night Watch. Our rally, the African Safari Challenge, crossed five countries in South Africa in May 2014 and in 2015 we participated in the second Trans-American rally this time from Nova Scotia to San Francisco. Next month we will travel 28 days around Australia with friends from previous rallies. Australia is over. Now on to S. America for the Rally of the Incas.

The crew from the other book might flit in and out, but I’d be wary of allowing them to steal the thunder from your new characters.. After all, the new book is not a sequel, and you are not serial writers!

I like the idea but don’t feel qualified to comment beyond that. It’s definitely on my future reading list.
