2.5 Million Listeners=PANIC

April 28: Before we leave for NY with Stewball for our next rally to Alaska on May 5th,  we have a radio interview that will feature both  The Long Road to Paris and our own adventurous lifestyle. The weekly Thursday program called Starstyle is the brain child of host Cynthia Brian and airs on Voice America’s World Talk Radio. According to Cynthia, Starstyle’s goal is to provide enriching and empowering programs to global listeners while exposing listeners to books and their authors. Her philosophy is: “To be a leader you must be a reader. Read, lead, succeed.”  Our hope, of course,  is to get greater exposure and interest in our novel through this outlet. Who knows, maybe even literary or movie agents listen to this broadcast. We can hope. 2.5 million listeners is a LOT of people!

The broadcast will air from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight time on May 3rd. Not all of the show is devoted to books and interviews. Our part begins at 6:17 pm. The live broadcast URL is: http://www.voiceamerica.com/worldtalkradio/vshow.aspx?sid=764 We hope many of you will listen in at that time. We’re just a little nervous since this will be the first live interview we have done. It’s different from magazine and newspaper interviews we’ve done in the past. Even the TV interview we did was not live. This time there is no do-over! I watch the news at night and listen to interviews with politicians, world leaders, sports and movie stars and wonder, how do they do this with such composure? Do they have coaches? Scripts? I’m sure experience helps.

If you cannot listen at that time, archives with photo, description and link will be maintained at : http://www.starstyleradio.com under Radio and the date of our appearance (May 3, 2012).

So, if you can’t tune in, cross your fingers for us that for 20 minutes we can be  entertaining, intelligent and, enlightening and that we won’t seriously flub our responses to whatever she throws at us. Picture this. Ed and I sitting in one room, each with a phone at our ear, pretending that it’s just a conversation with a new friend over a glass of wine, ( no real wine until it’s over)  introducing her to our lives and our book, while at the same time, staying aware that this is a world talk show and we’re trying not to offend any listener anywhere in the world! No big deal, you say. Really?

After this is over, we hope you will comments on the blog to this newest adventure. Our next post will be the first one for our New York to Alaska rally with Endurorally from England.

About ejhowle23

Authors and adventurers, participated in the World Race 2011, an automobile rally from New York to Paris, crossing three continents and 14,000 land miles. Following much the same route as the setting for our debut novel, The Long Road to Paris. This blog describes our own adventures and challenges. And now you can follow our Bahamas sailing adventure that provides the setting for our second novel, Night Watch. Our rally, the African Safari Challenge, crossed five countries in South Africa in May 2014 and in 2015 we participated in the second Trans-American rally this time from Nova Scotia to San Francisco. Spring of 2016 we travelled 28 days around Australia with friends from previous rallies and in the fall participated in our most exhausting rally through Argentina, Chili and Peru- the Rally of the Incas. We were awarded the Against All Odds award. We're still not sure if this was for us or our car. Stewball never broke down and we hardly did. We will soon take on Iceland as a self-drive tour and in the fall of 2017 we will participate in the Odyssey Italia and then back to Africa for a do-over (almost) of the Africa Safari Challenge.

Just have fun with it. If you’re afraid to blank out, have a little list with interesting details ready. Like the miles you drove, the nr of days in the car, the nr of breakdowns of Stewball, etc.
And an good/bad anecdote about each country/part of the trip. Listeners love those stories. But really have fun with it, it’s just one more good adventure this interview. We’ll try to listen that day! Hug, Carla
